東洲島位于衡陽市南2公里許湘江中，中分湘江而偏東，其勢如弓張東向，故名東洲。又因其狀似大船北航，故又曾號船山。

東洲島與長沙橘子洲、岳陽君山島并稱為湘江流域"三大洲"，全長約2.1公里，最寬處200余米，占地總面積323畝，總投資約4億元，全島以畫卷式分段主題展開為表達手法，展現(xiàn)東洲如畫美景，呈現(xiàn)世外桃源般的東洲風情。
